Stata Re-Activation Instructions (When the licence FILE has been provided)
If you have Stata installed and need to update the licence - when you have been provided the licence file - use the following instructions.
Windows:
Find your provided Stata licence file. The file should be called stata.lic exactly, no spaces or numbers or anything else in the file name. It may be in all uppercase instead of lowercase.
Right-click on the "stata.lic" file and select "copy" (depending on your Windows operating system the "copy" button may appear as a symbol rather than the word).
Go to your “Program Files” folder, located on your C drive (C:\Program Files).
Within your “Program Files” folder you should find a “Stata17” folder. Double-click to go into this “Stata17” folder. Within the “Stata17” folder, right-click and select “paste” to paste the “stata.lic” file into your “Stata17” folder. NOTE: If you have previously installed Stata it may ask if you want to replace the file. Select "Replace" when prompted.
Once you have done this the folder should look like this:

You can now open and run Stata! Search “Stata” in the taskbar, or simply double-click the “StataMP-64” application file as you can see above. If you have a different edition of Stata the application file may be called "StataSE-64" or "StataBE-64". You should then be greeted by this Stata screen:
